A Community Pub That Listens

Since our community came together to save The Dog Inn at Belthorn in 2015, we’ve always made listening to our community a priority. From the very start, your ideas and opinions helped shape the direction of this special place.

Now, as a thriving community-owned pub, we’re proud to continue that tradition of openness. Whether you’re popping in for a drink, attending one of our events, or stopping by for a chat, your feedback helps us grow.

We still hold regular monthly members’ surgeries, where a board member is available to discuss any ideas, suggestions, or concerns. It’s all part of keeping The Dog Inn at the heart of the community.

Highlights from Community Feedback

Over the years, we’ve hosted a wide range of events—from live music and theatre to social gatherings and community meetings. Here’s a look back at some of the feedback we’ve received—reminders of why these events matter.

Live Theatre at The Dog Inn: Odyssey by Rabbit Theatre

When we hosted the one-man show Odyssey back in 2017, the response was incredible. Attendees shared comments like:

  • “A brilliant one-man show with humour, drama, and great sound effects.”
  • “Impressed, entertained, educated.”
  • “Very enjoyable—a fun way to hear about Greek mythology.”
  • “Amazed by the performer’s versatility.”

Live Music with Howard Haigh

Our live music nights continue to be a highlight of The Dog Inn’s calendar. A memorable event in 2016 brought feedback like:

  • “Great venue! More events please!”
  • “Absolutely exceptional performance.”
  • “Really excellent intimate venue. The friendly atmosphere and nibbles made for a great night.”
  • “Fresh, fun, and light-hearted.”
  • “I was unsure at first, but I’m pleased to say I really enjoyed it.”
  • “Loved the chance to meet new people and learn more about Belthorn’s community.”

Since then, we’ve continued to build on these kinds of experiences, always welcoming suggestions on how we can make our events even better.

A Special Thank You from Visitors

We’ve also been lucky to welcome groups from outside the area who are interested in learning about community pubs. In 2016, Charlotte Foster from Your Community Project described her visit to The Dog Inn as:

“The highlight of our tour! The warm welcome, kind hospitality, and fantastic buffet made the study visit such a resounding success. We’ll be singing your praises for a long time to come!”

Looking Ahead: Keep the Feedback Coming

These experiences remind us why The Dog Inn is more than just a pub—it’s a space for culture, conversation, and connection. Today, we continue to host live events, community gatherings, and social evenings, and we welcome new ideas all the time.

If you’ve attended an event recently, shared a meal, or simply popped in for a drink, we’d love to hear from you. Your comments help us improve, grow, and continue to serve Belthorn and beyond.
