Tree planting in the community gardens

Belthorn is a village steeped in history especially involving weaving and mining. Our cottages are mainly 18th century and short of garden space. The ability to offer small areas for the community to sit and enjoy the outside was very important to us. We also wanted to offer space for grazing of horses and to hold chickens.

The views to the south and west of the Dog Inn are outstanding so a beer garden and children’s area were also important additions for us to consider. Quite a lot to fit in within a space just short of 2 acres……but with the help of local volunteers and donations, we have already planted over 400 trees and hedge bushes to encourage more wildlife and we are laying out plans to terrace the land and divide into suitable sized areas to accommodate the community needs.

We anticipate that plots will be available for an annual rent of £90 however this part of the project is very much weather dependent so a final timescale has yet to be agreed.
